Newton, Stew-Stras Claim Volleyball Wins

NEWTON -- Newton High School claimed a Little Illini Conference volleyball win over Martinsville Monday evening.
The Eagles won in two games, 25-10, 25-21 to improve to 15-7 overall. Johnson led the Eagles in aces with five and in digs with 16. Litzleman and Frohning had five kills each. Kline had one block. Koebele led in assists with 16.
In the junior varsity contest, Newton won 25-14, 25-16.

At Arcola
Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor picked up a non-conference victory over Arcola Thursday. The Comets won 25-17, 25-19 to improve to 15-8 on the season.
Kendall Knop led in kills with nine while Becca Schlechte led in digs with six. Schlechte also tied Courtney Probst for most assists with four.
"With two starters off the floor, we had to work a new rotation tonight," said Stew-Stras/Windsor Coach Ronda Schlechte. "The girls are really getting comfortable with the different changes. We started off playing very solid for game one but then fell behind in game two, 11-4. The girls worked real hard and kept their focus to take the lead and keep it. Coming from behind doesn't always work in our favor but their team work paid off."
In junior varsity competition, Arcola was the winner 25-15, 25-5. Stew-Stras/Windsor drops to 3-10.
