EHS Falls to Mattoon, Volleyball Roundup

MATTOON -- Mattoon claimed all three victories over Effingham in volleyball action Thursday evening.
The Green Wave won the varsity match 25-15, 25-16. The Hearts drop to 4-3 in the Apollo Conference, 7-7 overall. Felicia Totten led the Hearts in assists with 13 and digs with eight. She also had two blocks. Chandler Ramey had five kills. Jennifer Fred had two aces. Shelby Nunamaker led in blocks with three.
Mattoon also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-19. The Hearts fall to 7-10.
In a freshman contest, Mattoon was the winner 25-13, 25-10.

At Newton
Marshall came calling and claimed a Little Illini Conference win over Newton. The Eagles won the opener 25-23 but Marshall came back to take the next two, 25-22, 25-17. Newton drops to 4-3 in the conference, 14-7 overall.
Litzleman had 16 kills for the Eagles. Koebele had 29 assists and 10 digs. Kline and Koebele had two blocks each.
Newton won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-8 and claimed a freshman match 25-15, 25-19.

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a non-conference victory over Patoka. The Cardinals won 25-16, 25-21.
In junior varsity action, North Clay also won 25-8, 25-8.
At Toledo
Cumberland captured third place in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division Tournament.
The Pirates beat Hutsonville/Palestine 23-25, 25-21, 25-20. Jade Hutchcraft had 10 kills and four aces for the winners. Claire Guyon had 10 digs and Lainey Jackson 16 assists.
