Effingham High School moved above the .500 level in the Apollo Conference with a win over Salem in volleyball action Thursday evening.
The Hearts won the opener 25-20 but Salem came back to take the second contest 28-26. The Hearts then fought back with a 25-23 victory to improve to 6-6 overall.
Brittany Beals and Felicia Totten had four blocks each. Chandler Ramey led in kills with 14 while Jennifer Fred chipped in with 11. Ramey also led in digs with 13. Totten led in assists with 30.
Salem won the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-22. In a freshman contest, the two teams tied. Effingham won the opener 25-22 while Salem took the second contest 25-18.

Effingham St. Anthony picked up the varsity match over Teutopolis in two games during a Pink Out evening , 25-15, 27-25.
Megan Nuxoll had 20 digs and 13 kills for the Bulldogs. Jena Woltman led in assists with 24. Andrea Doedtman had four blocks.
T-town claimed the junior varsity contest 25-18, 26-24.

Altamont came calling and claimed a National Trail Conference win over Beecher City Thursday.
The Indians won 25-7, 25-19. Leading Altamont were Laatsch with six kills and a stuff block, Wharton with eight aces, Paquette with nine assists and Winters with five digs. The Indians are now 3-4 in the conference, 7-16 overall.
Altamont also nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-8, 25-7.

Stewardson-Strasburg handed Mulberry Grove a 25-7, 25-12 loss to improve to 11-5 on the season.
"The girls did really well moving the ball around tonight," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Becca started game one serving 16 consecutive points and in game two, we had several serving runs by Kaitlin Slifer, Kendall and Clara."
Kendall Knop led in kills with seven. Becca Schlechte had 13 aces, nine assists and five digs.
Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity match 25-20, 25-15 to improve to 3-8.

Newton traveled to Robinson and lost to the host squad, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23. Litzleman tallied 12 kills and four blocks. Koebele had 21 assists and Johnson led in digs with 23.
The Eagles won the junior varsity match 29-27, 25-15 and a freshman contest 25-23, 25-18.

Jade Hutchcraft led in kills with six. Claire Guyon and Lainey Jackson had six digs each.
Hutsonville/Palestine was a winner in the junior varsity match 26-24, 25-18.
