Effingham High School claimed an Apollo Conference victory over Mount Zion Thursday evening. EHS won 25-22, 25-20.

Felicia Totten had 19 assists and nine digs. Chandler Ramey led in digs with 12. Shelby Nunamaker had nine kills and four blocks.

Mount Zion claimed the junior varsity match 25-11, 22-25, 25-10. In the freshman contest, the two teams tied with Effingham winning the opener 25-16 and Mount Zion taking the second game 25-22.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner in National Trail Conference action at the Enlow Center Thursday.

The Bulldogs won 25-10, 25-3 over Beecher City. Jena Woltman led in assists with 18. Rachel Schutz had seven digs. Logan Braunecker led in kills with 11.

In junior varsity play, the Bulldogs won 25-4, 25-17.

At Louisville

South Central picked up a non-conference victory over North Clay (Louisville), 25-18, 25-11. South Central is now 7-8 on the season.

Katelynn Monical had eight points and four aces for the Cougars. Maria Brasel led in kills with five while Emily Chapman had eight assists.

In junior varsity play, South Central won 25-16, 25-11 to improve to 5-2. The Cougars also won a freshman/sophomore match 25-19, 25-20.

At Louisville

At Lawrenceville

With a victory over Lawrenceville, Newton High School improved to 11-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Little Illini Conference.

The Eagles went out 25-17, 25-11 in varsity action. Koebele had four aces and 18 assists. Lizleman, Kline and Cohorst led in kills with five each. Johnson had 10 digs.

Newton also won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-11.

At Lawrenceville

At Clay City

The contest went three games before Clay City pulled out a win over Dieterich in a non-conference match. Dieterich won the opener in a hard-fought game 28-26. Clay City then rallied and came back 26-24, 25-21.

Hannah Hunzinger led the Maroons in points with nine, aces with three and assists with 21. Mallorie Vahling had nine digs and eight kills. Lauren Garbe led in blocks with two.

Clay City won the junior varsity contest 21-25, 25-18, 15-11.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Windsor during the Volley for a Cure match Thursday evening. The Comets won 25-19, 25-21 to improve to 7-0 in the National Trail Conference, 9-5 overall.

"We would like to thank everyone for coming out to support our Volley for a Cure match," said Coach Ronda Schlechte. "It was awesome seeing the gym full of pink. Besides being a big night of pink, it was also a big night trying to defend our record in the NTC. Windsor really worked us in game one. Our defense was better tonight but our missed serves really hurt us.

"The game two win had a big lead after Kendall Knop served seven consecutive points and Carla Kaufman followed with an additional three. We just couldn't get a break and made multiple errors to let Windsor get too close before we pulled through."

Windsor claimed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-22.
