Stew-Stras Picks Up Victory, Volleyball Roundup

FARINA -- Stewardson-Strasburg came out tough and won the opener over South Central 25-18 then had a hard-fought win in the second game, 26-24 for the volleyball match Monday evening.
"We played our game in game one," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Game two we fell apart for a bit but was able to come from behind and take the match."
Clara Kaufman had six kills for the Comets while Maria Gentry led in aces with two. Kendall Knop had 13 digs and Becca Schlechte eight assists.
"Clara had a really good game tonight and Kaitlin Slifer is keeping a lot of balls in play so she is helping us at the net. We also had a few really nice hits from Jill Conder. Becca and Kendall do a great job keeping balls alive on defense and running the offense."
Stew-Stras improved to 5-0 in the National Trail Conference, 7-5 overall.
South Central was led by Emily Chapman with six kills and seven points, Maria Brasel with eight assists and Deedra Schaal with seven digs. The Cougars drop to 3-3 in the conference, 6-8 overall.
South Central won the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-14.

At Flora
Flora handed Altamont a loss in two non-conference games, 25-18, 25-15 Tuesday.
Laatsch led the Indians in kills with two. Winters and M. Hoene had four digs each. Laatsch and Miller had a stuff block each.
In the junior varsity match, Flora won 26-24, 24-26, 25-16. The freshman contest went to Altamont 25-17, 25-9.

North Clay (Louisville) came calling and handed Dieterich a loss in two games, 25-21, 25-20. Leading Dieterich were Katlyn Lane with seven points and five digs, Emilee Flach with three aces, Mallorie Vahling with five kills and Hannah Hunzinger with five assists. Dieterich drops to 3-9.
In junior varsity action, North Clay also won 15-25, 25-18, 25-18. Dieterich claimed a freshman/sophomore match 25-23, 25-21.

Cumberland claimed a non-conference win over Neoga, 25-19, 25-23.
Leading the Pirates were Lainey Jackson with 10 assists, Jade Hutchcraft with eight kills, Claire Guyon with 12 digs and Shaina Oakley with 10 blocks.
Neoga was led by Olivia Ott with five kills and seven digs, Taylor Gresens with five kills and six aces and Maddie Easton with 10 assists.
Neoga won the junoir varsity match 26-24, 20-25, 25-18.

Efifngham finished fourth at the Decatur St. Teresa Junior Varsity Tournament.
The Hearts lost to Decatur St. Teresa 25-23, 25-17. EHS then beat Decatur Eisenhower 18-25, 27-25, 15-3. The Hearts won over Maroa-Forsythe 27-25, 23-25, 15-4. EHS then lost to Bloomington 25-17, 25-15.
