Greenville Captures Altamont Volleyball Tourney

CASEY -- Effingham St. Anthony finished second in the Casey-Westfield Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

In pool play, the Bulldogs beat Lawrenceville 25-13, 25-15. In the second match, St. Anthony won over Fairfield, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11. St. Anthony then downed Hartsburg-Emden, 25-21, 22-25, 15-14.

In the championship match, St. Anthony fell to Edwards County (Albion) 26-22, 25-17. Megan Nuxoll led St. Anthony in digs with eight and kills with five. Jena Woltman had seven assists.

Newton finished 2-2 in the tournament. The Eagles beat Cisne 25-13, 25-20. The Eagles lost to Hartsburg-Emden  25-18, 25-23. The Eagles then beat Mount Zion 25-20, 21-25, 15-9. Newton finished out with a loss to Edwards County 25-23, 25-21.

At Altamont

Greenville downed Nokomis in the championship match of the Altamont Volleyball Tournament during the weekend to claim the title. Greenville won over Nokomis 25-19, 27-25.

In the third place match Vandalia beat Lincolnwood 17-25, 25-21, 15-6. Altamont finished fifth by beating Cumberland 25-13, 19-25, 15-9. South Central won over Beecher City 25-17, 25-13 for seventh place.

In pool play, Vandalia defeated Cumberland, 25-20, 25-12; Nokomis defeated South Central, 25-23, 25-21; Nokomis defeated Cumberland, 25-9, 25-12; Vandalia defeated South Central, 25-22, 13-25, 15-12; Cumberland defeated South Central, 25-14, 21-25, 15-11; Nokomis defeated Vandaia, 25-21, 17-25, 15-7.

Effingham finished fourth in the Champaign Central Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts beat Mahomet-Seymour 25-14, 25-23 then fell to Champaign Central 25-14, 25-19. The Hearts lost to St. Joseph-Ogden 25-22, 25-15.
