VIDEO: EHS vs St. Anthony, Pink Out 2014 (to order DVD copies, click to contact Wayne)

It was the annual Pink-Out match as Effingham High School played host to St. Anthony in volleyball action Tuesday evening. Proceeds from the night go to the American Cancer Society to help in the Fight Against Cancer.

St. Anthony captured the varsity match in two games. The Bulldogs won the opener in a close 25-23 contest. St. Anthony then came back with a 25-16 second game score for the match.

Varsity competition Tuesday evening at EHS as the Hearts hosted St. Anthony in the annual Pink Out match.

Ally Esker led the Bulldogs in digs with 10 and assists with nine. Rachel Schultz had four aces. Logan Braunecker led in kills with eight. Andrea Doedtman had a block.

EHS was led by Chandler Ramey in kills with seven. Jennifer Fred had three aces. Madeline Mitchell led in digs with six. Shelby Nunamaker had three blocks. Felicia Totten had 10 sets.

In junior varsity play, Effingham claimed a 25-18, 25-23 victory. St. Anthony won a freshman match 25-11, 25-19.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a National Trail Conference win over Dieterich Tuesday evening. The Comets won 25-17, 25-19.

"Overall the girls played very well tonight," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "You never know what to expect the first game but they did it. We have some things to work on but we have a nice base to work with. We can only get better. Kendall came out and played very well along with Clara. But, all the newcomers to varsity really helped out with stats."

Kendall Knop, Clara Kaufman and Maria Gentry had four aces each for the winners. Knop led in kills with five and digs with nine. Jill Conder had nine assists.  Kaitlin Slifer had two solo blocks.

Dieterich was led by Hannah Hunzinger and Emilee Flach with four points each. Flach had two aces and Hunzinger led in assists with four. Katlyn Lane had seven digs. Faith Boerngen and Mallorie Vahling had two kills each.

In junior varsity competition, Stew-Stras won 25-20, 25-17.

At Strasburg

At Cisne

North Clay (Louisville) fell to Cisne in two games, 25-19, 25-20.

In junior varsity action, Cisne was a winner 25-8, 26-24.

 

At Neoga

Arcola came calling and handed Neoga a loss in varsity action, 25-21, 25-18.

The Indians were led by Taylor Gresens with three kills and a block. Maddie Easton had nine assists. Lauren Romack led in digs with nine.

Arcola also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-15.

Charleston picked up a victory over Cumberland. The Trojans won 25-10, 25-11.

Cumberland was led by Jade McMechan in assists with nine. Jade Hutchcraft had eight kills and eight digs. Shaine Oakley led in digs with 11.

At Bement

Windsor lost the opening game 25-23, but came back with 25-18, 25-13 wins for the match over Bement.

Paige Woolard had 11 kills for the winners. Claire Pfeiffer led in assists with 23. Bayleigh Tabor had four aces. Mikayla Haddock led in digs with six.

Windsor also nabbed the junior varsity match 27-25, 25-15.

Patoka handed Beecher City a loss in varsity competition. Patoka won 25-11, 25-25. The match was the season opener for the Eagles.
