PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball claimed all three matches Saturday in the Spring Fling Tournament held on the Cougars’ home court in Bohler Gym.
In the best of three sets matches, WSU defeated Idaho 25-17, 25-18, defeated Central Washington 25-18, 25-11, and defeated Eastern Washington 25-19, 26-24.
Freshman outside hitter Kyra Holt (Hercules, Calif.) led the Cougars with 22 kills and 10 digs. Other Cougars with double-digit kills included freshman outside hitter Emmy Allen with 16 kills, junior middle blocker Ver’Leea Hardaway with 12 kills, and junior outside hitter Chelsey Bettinson with 10 kills.
Effingham St. Anthony High School graduate Haylee Mathis, 5-foot-11 freshman from Strasburg, competed for WSU as a setter.
"This was just the third match for Haylee," said Coach Jen Greeny. "For a 17-year-old she's doing really well and learning quickly. Her defense has improved a lot this spring."
The Cougars wrap up the 2014 spring tournament schedule April 12 at Gonzaga University’s Martin Center. WSU will play host Gonzaga, Seattle University, Idaho and Eastern Washington.
