Area Eighth-Grade Volleyball Regionals Underway

Eighth-grade volleyball regionals got underway Saturday around the state. Here are the results from Saturday's competition:
Class 8-1A West Salem Regional
Newton St. Thomas and Grayville were opening round winners at this regional. Grayville defeated Dieterich 25-11, 25-21 in the opener.
In the second match, St. Thomas downed West Salem 25-13, 25-10.
St. Thomas will now meet GrayvilleTuesday at 6 p.m. for the championship.
Class 8-2A St. Anthony Regional
Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont advanced in opening round play Saturday at the St. Anthony Regional.
The Bullpups defeated Hutsonville 25-20, 25-13. In the second contest, Altamont won over Oblong 25-20, 25-20.
St. Anthony will face St. Elmo/Brownstown Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by Altamont taking on Edwards County (Albion) at 7:15 p.m.

St. Anthony -- Bushur, 2 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces; Having, 7 assists, 4 aces; Marks, 2 aces; McGuire, 1 ace; Rincker, 1 dig, 1 kill; Will, 3 kills, 2 blocks, 5 aces
Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional
Neoga and Cowden-Herrick saw their seasons come to an end in the Paris Crestwood Regional.
Neoga won the opener over Findlay Okaw Valley 25-9, 25-21. Arthur then downed Paris Crestwood 25-15, 25-17. Cowden-Herrick won over Arcola 25-16, 25-10.
Neoga then fell to Oakland Lake Crest 25-7, 25-15. Arthur defeated Cowden-Herrick 25-16, 25-8.
Oakland Lake Crest will face Arthur Tuesday at 6 p.m. for the championship.
Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional
In the opening match, Marshall won over Lawrenceville Parkview 25-11, 25-14. In the second match, Cumberland defeated Casey-Westfield 25-16, 25-14.
Marshall will now face Robinson Nuttall at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by Cumberland taking on Jasper County at 7.
Class 8-4A Mattoon Regional
Effingham's season came to an end in the Class 8-4A Mattoon Regional Saturday.
The Mustangs won their opening contest 25-6, 25-23 over Urbana. Effingham then fell to host Mattoon 28-26, 30-28. In the third match Charleston defeated Tolono Unity 23-25, 26-24, 25-18.
Mattoon will now face Charleston Tuesday for the championship at 6 p.m.
