Effingham Claims Regional Championship, Volleyball Roundup

CHARLESTON -- Effingham Junior High School captured the championship of the Class 7-4A Charleston Volleyball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs opened the evening with a victory over Tolono Unity 25-13, 25-22. Mattoon then downed Charleston 25-12, 17-25, 25-20.

Effingham faced Mattoon for the championship and won 25-22, 25-17.

The Mustangs advance to the Mattoon Sectional Monday, March 10 at 6 p.m. against either Mahomet-Seymour or Champaign Edison. Those two teams play Thursday for the championship of the Champaign Jefferson Regional.

 

Class 3A Robinson Nuttalll Regional

Casey-Westfield and Cumberland will meet for the championship of this regional after picking up victories Tuesday evening.

Casey-Westfield opened the evening with a three-set match over Robinson Nuttall. Casey-Westfield won 25-23 before Nuttall came back with a 25-22 win. Casey-Westfield then claimed the win 25-21.

Cumberland also went three sets over Jasper County. Cumberland won the opener 25-17. Jasper County came back with a 25-20 win. Cumberland then won 25-19.

Casey-Westfield and Cumberland will meet for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 3A Tuscola East Prairie Regional

Shelbyville Moulton and Tuscola East Prairie picked up victories in this regional Tuesday evening.

Tuscola East Prairie defeated Teutopolis 25-21, 27-25 in the opener. Shelbyville Moulton then downed Paris Mayo 25-21, 25-19.

The two squads meet Thursday for the championship at 6.
