Far Exceeds Sectional Distance to Qualify
Effingham High School senior Nate Boggs has qualified for the finals at the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet at Charleston.
Boggs reached the finals in the shot put with a heave of 54 feet. That's more than two feet farther than his qualifying distance at the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional of 51' 10-1/2". He is fifth in the competition heading into the finals.
The shot put effort set a new Effingham High School record, shattering the previous mark of 52' 10-1/2", which has stood since 1974.
Boggs also made the finals in the discus throw with a toss of 156' 3". That places him in 10th place. The toss is more than five feet farther than his 150' 11" performance at Sectional. The discus distance is still short of the school record of 159' 6", set in 1967 by John Klosterman.
