Ben Roedl Leads Area Tracksters At Class 1A State Boys Meet

CHARLESTON -- Altamont High School's Ben Roedl led the area state qualifiers Thursday at the Class 1A State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Roedl advanced to the finals in all three events he qualified in. He finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.60 meters, was fourth in the triple jump at 13.33 meters and seventh in the high jump at 1.85 meters. He will be competing Saturday.

Also advancing to the finals from Altamont was Jacob Veteto in the pole vault. He went a height of 3.80 meters and was seventh.

Advancing in the pole vault was Teutopolis High School's Brant Niebrugge who finished 14th reaching a qualifying height of 3.80 meters.

Effingham St. Anthony's Calvin Sudkamp advanced in the high jump. He went 1.85 meters.The Bulldogs 4x800 relay team of Elliott Frisbie, Noah Flaig, Isaac Fallert and Julius Ramos advanced with a 12th place finish with a time of 8.24.80 minutes.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Trenten Monnet advanced to the finals with a third place finish in the discus. He had a throw of 47.77 meters.

Cumberland's Reid Calen will be competing in the finals of the 100. He finished seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 10.90 seconds.

Newton High School's Parker Wolf will be taking part in the finals of the 400. He finished second in prelims with a time of 49.79 seconds. Also advancing to the finals for the Eagles was Wade Wickham in the pole vault. He finished eighth in the prelims with a height of 3.80 meters.

Also competing Saturday will be members of the 3200 field that does not run preliminaries. Taking part from the area are Kaden Einhorn of Dieterich who is ranked third, and Griffin Vaughn of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City who is ranked seventh.

Competing in the Class 2A State Meet today are Effingham High School's Jacob Weaver in the pole vault and the 4x800 relay team of Adam Flack, Alex Gordon, Aaron Hill and Sam Spicer.
