Area Athletes Headed to Class 1A, 2A State Boys Track Meets

Altamont, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Cumberland, Dieterich, Effingham St. Anthony, Newton and Teutopolis will be sending athletes to the Class 1A Boys State Track Meet while Effingham will send five boys to the Class 2A State Track Meet.
The Class 1A State Meet preliminaries will be held Thursday with field events getting underway at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at noon at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.
The Class 2A and Class 3A State Meet preliminaries will be held Friday with the 2A field events beginning at 8 a.m. and the running events at 10 a.m.
All those who advance from preliminaries to the finals will head back Saturday. The Parade of Competitors will take place beginning at 8:45 a.m. Opening Ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. Field events and running events both begin at 10 a.m. with the three classes alternating. Team awards are scheduled for 5 p.m.
