Area Girls Set To Compete At State Track Meets

Girls from Effingham St. Anthony, Effingham, Altamont, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Cumberland, Newton, North Clay (Louisville) and Teutopolis are set to head to the Class 1A and Class 2A State Track Meets Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

St. Anthony, Altamont, BSE, CHBC, Cumberland, Newton, North Clay and Teutopolis will be competing in the Class 1A State preliminaries Thursday. The field events will begin at 8 a.m. with the running events at 10 a.m.

Effingham will be taking part in the Class 2A State preliminaries Friday along with Class 3A. Field events for 2A begin at 8 a.m. with running events starting at 10 a.m. Class 3A field events will begin at noon with running events starting at 2:20 p.m.

The qualifiers from Thursday and Friday's events will advance to the finals scheduled for Saturday where all three classes will be competing. The Parade of Competitors will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the Opening Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Field and running events will alternate between the three classes beginning at 10 a.m.
