Three Effingham Girls, Two Relay Teams Headed To State

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School will be represented by three individuals and two relay teams at the Class 2A State Track Meet after advancing from the Charleston Sectional Thursday.

Tolono Unity won the team championship with 139 points followed by Mount Zion 117, Mahomet-Seymour 85, Robinson 67.33, Effingham 52, Taylorville 45.33, Urbana 44, Mattoon 29, Richland County (Olney) 29, St. Joseph-Ogden 22.33, Charleston 18, Mount Carmel 18, Decatur MacArthur 10, Rantoul 10, Monticello 8, Paris 7 and Decatur Eisenhower 1.

The first and second place finishers advance to State along with any reaching state qualifying standards.

Effingham's Jessica Larsen will be competing in two individual events. She took second in the 800 with a time of 2:20.53 minutes. Although she finished sixth in the 1600, she also advanced by reaching the state qualifying standard of 5:26.27. Larsen finished with a time of 5:23.65.

Camdyn Burgholzer will take part in the high jump. Burgholzer took second place with a jump of 1.54 meters. The top five high jumpers reached the height of 1.54 meters to all advance.

Drew Weis will be competing in the 400. She finished third with a time of 59.90 seconds and reached State by hitting the quailfying standard which was 1:00.71.

The Hearts 4x400 relay team of Baylee Summers, Macy Kirk, Larsen and Weis advanced with a second place finish.  The four-some had a time of 4:06.04 minutes.

The 4x800 relay team of Summers, Morgan Springer, Weis and Larsen advanced with a second place finish in 9:54.99 minutes.

The Hearts will be competing Thursday as Class 2A and 3A preliminaries will be contested. Those who make it to the finals will be competing Saturday as all three classes have their finals.
