Newton Boys Second, Girls Third at LIC Track Meets

NEWTON --  Newton High School placed second in the Little Illini Conference boys track meet and third in the girls meet Wednesday.

In the boys meet, Olney was the champion with 134 points followed by Newton 111, Paris 58, Casey-Westfield 56, Marshall 46, Mount Carmel 30 and Lawrenceville 5.

Parker Wolf placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 49.98 seconds. Luke Weber won the 800 in 1:59.60 while teammate Hayden Borgic took third in 2:08.92.

Wade Wickham was a winner in the pole vault at 3.71 meters.

Weber was second in the 1600 in 4:43.80. Evan Baltzell finished second in the 110 hurdles in 16.38 seconds while teammate Owen Schackmann was third in 16.60.

Baltzell also took second in the 300 hurdles in 43.25 and Schackmann was third in 45.80.

The 3200 relay team won in 8:53.93 minutes. Team members were Jackson Sornberger, Tanner Whitaker, Hayden Borgic and Brock Probst.

The 1600 relay team finished second in 3:32.07 minutes. Team members were Sornberger, Weber, Matthew Haskett and Wolf.

In the girls meet, Robinson was the team champion with 143 points followed Newton 127, Olney 104, Marshall 73, Mount Carmel 39, Paris 34, Casey-Westfield 33 and Lawrenceville 1.

Newton's Brook Schafer won the shot with a heave of 10.15 meters. Karasyn Martin won the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters. Lena Fehrenbacher was a winner in the long jump at 4.69 meters.

Gracie Smithenry took second in the high jump at 1.52 meters.

Sydney Kinder finished second in the 400 in 1:02.02 minutes. The 400 relay team of Alaina Kuhl, Elley Bennett, Morgan Schafer and Makayla McVicar finished second in 51.89 seconds.

The 800 relay team of Kuhl, Bennett, Schafer and McVicar was second in 1:51.79. The 3200 relay team of Camryn Martin, Bennett, K. Martin and Kinder were second in 4:13.17.The 3200 relay team of K. Martin, Layna Marshall, C. Martin and Grace Schumacher finished in 19:43.89 for second place.
