Five Area Track Teams Compete At Shelbyville Girls Open

Five area high schools competed in the Shelbyville Girls Track Open Friday.

Winning the meet were Robinson and Shelbyville tied at 113 followed by Newton 104, Teutopolis 77.5, Williamsville 76, Pleasant Plains 71.5, Monticello 41.5, Pana 31, Moweaqua Central A&M 28, Brownstown/St. Elmo 27, Vandalia 8, Altamont 7.5 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 3

Newton had two first place finishes. Grace Smithenry won the high jump at 4 feet, 9 3/4 inches. Karasyn Martin was a winner in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

T-town's Kaitlyn Vahling and Ella Neihls were double event winners. Vahling claimed the 100 in 12.61 seconds and the 200 in 21.16

Neihls claimed the long jump at 16 feet, 3 inches and won the triple jump at 34-11 1/4.

The 400 relay team won in 52.40 seconds

Brownstown/St. Elmo had two third place finishes. Presley Williams took third in the 100 in 14.38 while teammate Katie Berner was third in the 300 hurdles in 53.89.

Altamont's top finish was a fourth by Abigail Weishaar in the 400 in 1:04.90 minutes.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's top finisher was Leah Kasey sixth in the shot with a throw of 29 feet, 8 inches.
