Newton Boys Win, Girls Second In Track Meets

Newton High School claimed a boys track meet while the girls squad finished second Thursday.

 The Eagles won the boys meet with 158 points followed by Robinson 155, Marshall 87, Neoga 49, Richland County 28 and Dieterch 20.

Newton's Matthew Haskett claimed the 200 in 24.4 seconds while Tanner Whitaker won the 400 with a time of 57.44 seconds. 

Luke Weber was a winner in the 1600 in 4:40.40 minutes.

Wade Wickham claimed the pole vault at 12 feet, 6 inches.

The Eagles' 1600 relay team was a winner in 3:48.10 minutes while the 3200 relay team won in 9:10.60.

Dieterich's Kaden Einhorn won the 3200 run in 10:43.80 minutes. 

In the girls meet, Robinson was the team champion with 144 points followed by Newton 113, Marshall 62, Casey-Westfield 27 and Neoga 22.

Newton's Morgan Shafer was a winner in the 100 hurdles in 18.0 seconds while teammate Karasyn Martin captured the 300 hurdles in 52.8 seconds.

The Eagles swept the four relay events. The 400 relay team of Makayla McVicar, Elley Bennett, Morgan Schafer and Alaina Kuhl won in 53.3 seconds while the 800 relay team of McVicar, Kuhl, Schafer and Bennett also won in 1:54.1 minutes.

The 1600 relay team of McVicar, Kuhl, Bennett and Sydney Kinder won in 4:23.5 minutes. The 3200 relay team of Bennett, Grace Schumacher, Camryn Martin and K. Martin won in 10;54.5 minutes.

Brooke Schafer was a double event winner for the Eagles taking the shot with a throw of 9.95 meters and the discus at 30.32 meters.
