Plenty of State Champs at State Jr High Track Meets

Several excellent performances were seen over the weekend at the State Junior High 1A and 2A Track and Field Meets. The meets took place Friday and Saturday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Here are the results:

Boys 7-1A

Springfield Christian won the meet with 42 points, but Newton St. Thomas finished second with 38 points and Neoga finished third with 37 points.

Garrett Ballinger of Neoga won the 110 Meter Hurdles in 16.34. Quincy Fulton of Newton St. Thomas won the 100 Meter Dash in 12.18 and won the 200 Meter Dash in 24.88. Grady Haarman of Neoga won the Pole Vault in 7-09. 

Boys 7-2A

Altamont is the State 7-2A Champion, amassing 38 points. 

Cooper McManaway had a huge day for Altamont. McManaway won the 400 Meter Dash in 56.12, won the 800 Meter Run in 2:09.14, and won the Shot Put in 41-01. 

Boys 8-1A

Sacred Heart finished second in the state with 35 points while Sigel St. Michael finished third with 32.5 points. 

Bryce Niebrugge of Sigel St. Michael's won the pole vault 10-09.

Jude Traub of Sacred Heart won the shot put at 47-06, and the Discus Throw at 141. 

Boys 8-2A

St. Anthony finished seventh with 21 points.

There were no local state champions in 8-2A

Girls 7-1A

Newton St. Thomas finished tied for seventh with 16 points. 

There were no local state champions in 7-1A

Girls 7-2A

St. Anthony won the state championship in Girls 7-2A with 48 points, 14 points better than second place Havana.

Reese Hoene of St. Anthony won the 100 Meter Dash in 13.15, the 200 Meter Dash in 26.54, and the 400 Meter Dash in 59.60, then also won the Long Jump in 16-11.50. Edie Wittenberg of Stewardson-Strasburg won the 800 Meter Run in 2:24.69. 

Girls 8-1A

Sigel St. Michael tied for ninth with 22 points. 

Isabella Keller of Sacred Heart won the 800 Meter Run in 2;22.60, and the 1600 Meter Run in 5:05.62. Ali Kollmann of Sigel St. Michael won the Shot Put in 32-01. 

Girls 8-2A

St. Anthony finished fourth with 25 points. 

Nora Trupiano of St. Anthony won the Pole Vault at 8-00.
