Newton Claims Girls Four-Team Track Meet

OLNEY -- Newton High School captured a four-team girls track meet Monday at Richland County High School.

The Eagles tallied 120 points followed by Olney 69, Mount Carmel 60 and Lawrenceville 10.

Laney Hemrich was a triple event winner in the individual races. She claimed the 100 in 12.7 seconds, the 200 in 27.5 seconds and the 400 in 1:02.9 minutes.

Hemrich was also a member of the winning 400 relay team that claimed first in 51.7 seconds. Other members of the team included Morgan Schafer, Alaina Kuhl and Makayla McVicar.

Tracie Smithenry won the 100 hurdles in 18.6 seconds while teammate Elley Bennett took the 300 hurdles in 54.2. Smirhwney also captured the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.

Layna Marshall won the 3200 in 13:29.1 minutes.

The Eagles claimed the 800 relay in 1:54.5 minutes. Team members were Ella Radke, Sydney Kinder, McVicar and Kuhl.

In field events, Brooke Schafer won the shot with a toss of 33 feet, 11 inches. Schafer also won the discus with a throw of 89 feet, 8 inches.

Karasyn Martin won the pole vault at 9 feet. Kinder won the triple jump at 32 feet, 2 1/2 inches.
