St. Anthony, Altamont, Newton Compete At Mattoon Girls Track Meet

MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony, Altamont and Newton were the local teams competing at the Mattoon Girls Track Meet Monday.

Team scores are not official at this point.

Newton's Laney Hemrich was a double event winner. Hemrich claimed the 100 in 13.56 seconds and won the 400 in 1:02.12 minutes.

Hemrich was also a member of the Eagles' 400 relay team that claimed first in 53.71 seconds. Other team members were Morgan Schafer, Alaina Kuhl and Makayla McVicar.

Brooke Schafer helped the Eagles with a first place finish in the shot with a throw of 10.18 meters. Grace Smithenry claimed first in the high jump at 1.49 meters.

St. Anthony had three first place finishes. Mollie Slifer won the 1600 with a time of 6:06.19 minutes.

Allison Geen took first in the pole vault at 2.74 meters and teammate Maggie Moeller was first in the triple jump at 9.73.

Altamont's Peyton Osteen tied for first in the discus with a throw of 25.60 meters.
