St. Anthony, EHS Tracksters Compete at Mt. Zion Indoor Track Meet

MOUNT ZION -- Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham competed in the Mount Zion Indoor Track Meet Saturday.

In the women's meet, St. Anthony claimed sixth place with 34.5 points. Winning was Champaign Central with 120 followed by Taylorville 82, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 74, Urbana 63, Athens 38, St. Anthony, Sullivan 33, Springfield Lutheran 26, Staunton 22.5, Palestine 18, Peoria Christian 6 and Lincoln 2,

The Bulldogs had one first place finish. Grace Niebrugge won the triple jump with a personal best of 9.47 meters.

Three third place efforts were by Mary Scheidemantel in the high jump at 1.40 meters, Callie Emmerich in the shot at 8.03 meters and Mollie Slifer in the 1600 in 6:19.63 minutes. A fourth place finish went to Emma Helmink in the 1600 in 6:23.37.

In the boys meet, Champaign Central won with 106.5 points followed by Pekin 89, Urbana 87, Palestine 39.5, Springfield Lutheran 39, Taylorville 83, St. Anthony 31, Lincoln 26.5, Bismarck-Henning 26, Athens 22, Peoria Christian 11.5, Danville Schlarman 9, Effingham 5 and Glen Carbon 5.

St. Anthony's Max Sager won the 400 with a time of 54.72 seconds.

Calvin Sudkamp took second in the high jump at 1.73. He also claimed fourth place in the triple jump at 11.08.

Effingham's Garrett Wagoner captured fourth place in the 1600 in 4:48.78.
