Several Area 1A Boys Qualify for State Track Finals

Several area athletes qualified Thursday for the Class 1A finals at the boys high school state track and field meet. The three-day event is taking place at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Here's who advanced to Saturday's finals:
LONG JUMP -- Corey Kersey (Neoga), 20 feet, 8 inches
POLE VAULT -- Brandon Tolliver-Goode (Newton), 13 feet
SHOT PUT -- Jason Fry (Stewardson-Strasburg), 48 feet, 6 inches
TRIPLE JUMP -- Corey Kersey (Neoga), 45 feet, 3 inches and Jacob Pfeiffer (Windsor), 42 feet, 1 1/2 inches
DISCUS THROW -- Jason Fry (Stewardson-Strasburg), 142 feet, 7 inches
800 METER RUN -- Tye Sutherland (Cumberland), 1:58.67 minutes
400 METER DASH -- Derek Williamson (Neoga), 50.52 seconds
200 METER DASH -- Derek Williamson (Neoga), 22.61 seconds

The 1A finals are set for Saturday. The 3200 does not have preliminaries and will compete Saturday with Peter Keller (St. Anthony) and Andrew Sharp (Altamont).
Friday will feature the 2A qualifying. Effingham's Clark Williamson in the pole vault and Thomas Lasher in the triple jump are among those competing.
