Area Girls To Compete At Class 1A State Track Meet

The area will be well represented at the Class 1A Girls State Track Meet beginning Thursday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Effingham St. Anthony, Teutopolis, Altamont, Brownstown/St. Elmo and Newton will have competitors.

Competing for the Bulldogs will be Allison Geen in the pole vault, Anna Greene in the pole vault and Maggie Moeller in the triple jump.

Teutopolis will have Kaitlyn Vahling in three events, the 100, 200 and 400 and Isabelle Hemmen in the pole vault.

Altamont's Grace Nelson will be taking part in three races, the 200, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Addie McWhorter will compete in the high jump.

Newton has the most athletes taking part in the meet. Individually, Laney Hemrch will run the 400, Rylea Borgic the 800, 100 hurdles and 300  hurdles, Gracie Smithenry in the high jump, Camryn Martin in the pole vault, Addyson O'Dell in the long jump, Alexis Hetzer in the triple jump and Amber Russell throwing the shot.

Relays will be the 400 with O'Dell, Alaina Kuhl, Hemrich and Makayla McVicar, the 800 with O'Dell, Ella Radke, McVicar and Brooke Schafer and the 1600 with Sydney Kinder, Karasyn Martin, Borgic and Hemrich.

The Class 1A preliminaries will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. with the field events and at 11 a.m. with the running events. Class 2A and 3A prelims will be held Friday.

Those qualifying for the finals in all three classes will advance to Saturday for the finals which are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with both running and field events.
