Altamont Nabs Boys Meet, Newton Girls Altamont Open

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School captured its own boys track open Monday while Newton claimed the girls title.

The Indians won with 158 points followed by Effingham St. Anthony 94, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 74, Vandalia  49.5, Teutopolis 42.5, Patoka 26, Neoga 23, Brownstown/St. Elmo 20, Newton 18, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 11 and Dieterich 8.

Altamont's Xander Moschenrose guided his team with two individual first place finishes and was a member of a winning relay team.

Moschenrose captured the 100 in 11.5 seconds and the 200 in 23.7. He was a member of the 400 relay tean along with Noah Klimpel, Devon Sloan and Logan Duncan in 44.9 seconds.

Klimpel also captured an individual first in the 400 in 54.6 seconds.

Eric Kollmann picked up two victories for Altamont. He won the discus with a throw of 41.98 meters and captured the shot with a heave of 13.92 meters.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jadon Robertson was a winner in four events. Robertson took the 110 hurdles in 14.2 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 39.5. He also won the high jump at 2.01 meters and the long jump at 6.51 meters.

CHBC's Zander Merryfield was a winner in two running events. He captured the 800 in 2:10.9 meters and the 1600 in 5:20.6.

St. Anthony's Griffen Elder won the 3200 in 10:31.8 minutes. He also was a member of the winning 1600 relay team along with Elliott Frisbie, Conlan Walsh and Giovanni Bucio in 3:47.7 minutes. The Bulldogs' 3200 relay team of Aidan Braunecker, Bucio, Frisbie and Walsh won on 9:34.6.

In the girls meet, Newton won the team title handily with 183.5 points followed by Patoka 70, Brownstown/St. Elmo 62, Teutopolis 57.67, St. Anthony 45.33, Vandalia 32, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 22.5, Altamont 19, Neoga 19, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 9 and Webber Township (Bluford) 1.

The Eagles swept the relay events winning the 400 in 52.9 seconds, the 800 in 1:55.1 minutes, the 1600 in 4:18.4 and the 3200 in 11:40.7. Members of the 400 team were Sydney Kinder, Elley Bennett, Laney Hemrich and Alaina Kuhl. Members of the 800 team were Alaina Kuhl, Ella Radke, Bennett and Kinder. The 1600 team consisted of Kinder, Karasyn Martin, Rylea Borigc and Hemrich and the 3200 relay team members were Jorja Whitaker, Radke, Paige Klingler and Natalie Kistner.

Newton also nabbed five individual firsts. Borgic claimed two of those. She won the 800 in 2:31.0 minutes and the 300 hurdles in 50.9 seconds. Hemrich won the 400 in 1:01.0 minutes. Amber Russell was a winner in the shot with a throw of 10.43 meters. Alexis Hetzer took the triple jump at 9.83 meters.

T-town had three first place finishes with Kaitlyn Vahling nabbing two of those. Vahling won the 100 in 12.4 seconds and the 200 in 26.4. Isabelle Hemmen won the pole vault at 3.35 meters.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Kyleigh Wallace won the discus with a throw of 31.80 meters.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Addie McWhorter claimed the high jump at 1.60 meters.
