EHS Finishes Second at Urbana Open; Stew-Stras Fourth at Pana

Effingham High School captured second place in the Urbana Boys Track Open Saturday.
Zion-Benton won the meet with 158 points followed by Effingham 131, Argo 85, Decatur MacArthur 78, Danville 69, Champaign Central 63, Fenwick 63, Mattoon 52, Peoria Christian 46, Rich South 41, Urbana 25 and Manual 18.
Nishida was a champion in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet. Williamson claimed the pole vault at 11 feet.
The Hearts also had four second-place finishes. Fatheree took second in the 800 in 2:05.41 and Hecht was second in the 300 hurdles in 43.64. The Hearts finished second in the 400 relay in 44.91 and second in the 800 in 1:34.39.
At Pana
Rushville Industry captured the championship of the Pana Open Class B Boys Track Meet Saturday.
Rushville Industry tallied 144 points followed by Central A&M 116.5, Meridian 54, Stewardson-Strasburg 53, Mount Olive 48, Pawnee 42, Sangamon Valley 42, Gillespie 41.5, Greenfield 22, Effingham St. Anthony 14 and Cerro Gordo 5.
Fry captured two first place finishes for the Comets. Fry won the discus with a throw of 159 feet, 9 inches and claimed the shot at 48-4. Becker had two second place finishes. Becker took second in the 110 hurdles in 17.8 seconds and second in the triple jump at 37-5 1/2. Stew-Stras finished third in the 800 relay in 1:43.42.
St. Anthony's Matt Gibson finished third in the 300 hurdles in 47.53.
