Three First Place Finishes For CHBC Athletes At Class 1A State Track Meet

CHARLESTON -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City High School athletes came up big with three first place finishes and one third place at the Class 1A State Boys Track Meet Thursday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Jadon Robertson claimed two first place finishes and a third. The junior  won the 110 hurdles with a personal record of 14.68 seconds. He also claimed the championship of the high jump with a personal record best of 6 feet, 6 1/4 inches. He then finished out with a third place in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

His teammate, Daniel Lucas, competed in the shot and discus. The junior won the shot with a personal record throw of 54 feet, 11 3/4 inches. He finished 19th in the discus at 126 feet, 11 1/4 inches.

Effingham St. Anthony's 3200 relay team of Ty Wiedman, Conlan Walsh, Griffin Elder and Noah Tegeler finished 12th in 8:39.56 minutes. The 1600 relay team ot Wiedman, Elder, Kennan Walsh and Max Sager finished 15th in 3:35.99 minutes.

Tegeler competed in the 1600 and finished 27th in 4:56.23 minutes.

Altamont had five individuals and two relay teams competing. The 400 relay team of Kolby Brewer, Logan Duncan, Xander Moschenrose and Tristan Rhodes  finished 17th in 44.74 seconds. The 800 relay team of Moschenrose, Sam Mathesius, Brewer and Duncan finished 18th in 1:34.77.

Individually, Mathesius finished 21st in the triple jump at 39 feet, 7 1/4 inches, a personal record while Eric Kollman was 21st in the disus with a throw of 126 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Moschenrose finished 24th in the 200 in 23.72 seconds while Rhodes was 25th in the 300 hurdles in 44.35 and Derick Budde was 26th in the 800 in 2:04.93 minutes, a personal record.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Jace McWhorter competed in two events and claimed 13th place in both. He had a 16.21 second finish in the 110 hurdles, a personal record, and went 6 feet, 3/4 inches in the high jump.

Cumberland and Neoga had one competitor each. Cumberland's Galen Martinez was 28th in the 100 in 11.66 seconds. Neoga's Brayden Cox took 29th in the 3200 in 10:55.98 minutes, a personal record.

Newton had four individuals and two relay teams competing. Parker Wolf claimed 16th place in the 400 in 52.22 seconds while Evan Schafer was 20th in the 400 in 52.65. Nick Zwilling captured 20th in the 1600 in 4:44.10 minutes and Jacob Wickham was 20th in the shot with a throw of 42 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

The 3200 relay team of Zwilling, Nicholas Shamhart, Luke Weber and Owen Mahaffey finished 22nd in 8:56.51 minutes. The 400 relay team of Isasc Flowers, Ben Meinhart, Schafer and Wolf did not finish.
