EHS' Shelby Rieman Advances To State Track Meet

Effingham High School's Shelby Rieman was the lone Hearts trackster to advance to the Class 2A State Girls Track Meet.

Rieman claimed the championship of the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters at the Mount Zion Sectional.

Mount Zion was the team champion with 161 points followed by Tolono Unity 129, Monticello 105, Charleston 37, Effingham 36, Mattoon 34, Paris 17, Clinton 12.5, Decatur MacArthur 85., Taylorville 7, Mount Carmel 4, Olney 4 and Decatur St. Teresa 3.

The first and second place finishers advance to State along with any reaching state qualifying standards.

Effingham had other top five finishes but will not advance. Kiley Weaver took third in the 400 in 1:02.94. Taylor Greene was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 19.33.

Effingham's 400 relay team took third in 52.82 while the 800 relay team was fourth in 1:53.09 and the 1600 relay team also took fourth in 4:21.46. The 3200 relay team took fifth in 12:37.15.

The State Track meets will be held Thursday, June 10 through Saturday, June 12 with the 1A finals June 10, 2A finals June 11 and 3A finals June 12.
