St. Anthony, Altamont Win NTC Track Meet Titles

Effingham St. Anthony and Altamont were team champions at the National Trail Conference Boys and Girls Track Meets Wednesday.

The Bulldogs claimed the girls victory with 199 points followed by Altamont 81, Brownstown/St. Elmo 54, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 52, Neoga 29, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 15 and North Clay (Louisville) 10.

St. Anthony captured 11 first place finishes in the meet. The Bulldogs swept all four relay events, winning the 400 (Grace Niebrugge, Catty Jansen, Sydney Kibler, Erin Stewart) in 1:01.41, the 800 (Maggie Moeller, Grace Niebrugge, Allison Geen, Stewart) in 2:05.02, the 1600 (Rilie Willenborg, Evie Strullmyer, Emma Helmink, Stacie Vonderheide) in 5:22.29 and the 3200 (Ada Rozene, Willenborg, Helmink, Vonderheide) in 12:59.80.

Vonderheide and Kibler claimed two victories each. Vonderheide won the 1600 in 6:14.84 minutes and the high jump at 1.47 meters. Kibler captured the shot with a throw of 10.20m and the discus at 30.00m.

Other Bulldog first place finishers were Strullmyer who claimed the 400 in 1:11.30 minutes, Moeller in the 100 in 13.83 seconds and Niebrugge in the triple jump at 8.60m.

Altamont's Grace Nelson was the Wonder Woman of the meet with four wins. Nelson captured the 200 in 25.60 seconds, the 100 hurdles in 15.26, the 300 hurdles in 44.50 and the long jump at 5.50 meters.

Other victories were McKenna Carter in the 3200 run in 14:35.52 minutes and two by Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Katie White in the pole vault at 2.31 meters and Sydney Lorton in the 800 in 2:42.32 minutes.

In the boys meet, Altamont was crowned the champion with 174 points followed by St. Anthony 164, Brownstown/St. Elmo 61, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 48, Neoga 24 and Dieterich 12.

Altamont and St. Anthony both had six first place finishes.

Xander Moschenrose claimed two championships for the Indians, taking the 100 in 11.72 seconds and the 200 in 23.40.

Tucker Short won the 400 in 53.50 and Tristan Rhodes claimed the 300 hurdles in 44.80. Sam Mathesius captured the triple jump at 12.00 meters.

The other victory was in the 800 relay at the Indians went 1:38.28 minutes. Members of the team were Kolby Brewer, Logan Duncan, Mathesius and Moschenrose.

St. Anthony's six first place finishes were by Taylor Smith in the discus with a heave of 41.30 meters, Ty Wiedman in the 800 in 2:11.76 minutes, Noah Tegeler in the 1600 in 4:48.08 and Max Sager in the pole vault at 3.40 meters.

The Bulldogs claimed three relays taking the 3200 (Griffin Elder, Wiedman, Tegeler, Conlan Walsh) in 9:17.22, the 1600 (Wiedman, Mick Willenborg, Tegeler, Kennan Walsh) in 3:46.57 and the 400 (Taylor Smith, Sager, Willenborg, Walsh) in 44.47.

Cowden-Herrick's Jadon Robertson was a triple threat, taking the 110 hurdles in 16.13 seconds, the high jump at 1.90 meters and the long jump at 6.43m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Daniel Lucas was a winner in the shot with a throw of 15.55m.

Neoga had the only other winner, Brayden Cox in the 3200 meter run in 10:57.46 minutes.
