Newton Captures Seven Team Girls Track Meet

NEWTON -- Newton High School played host to a seven-team girls track meet and came out the champion with 161 points followed by Red Hill (Bridgeport) 101.5, Monticello 95, Vandalia 63, Olney 51, Casey-Westfield 58 and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond 48.5.

Whitney Zumbahlen was a major point gatherer for the winning Eagles with two first place finishes and two seconds.

Zumbahlen won the long jump at 15 feet, 9 inches and the 100 dash in 12.83 seconds. She took second in the 400 in 1:02.05 minutes and second in the 200 in 28.27.

Rylea Borgic nabbed two first place finishes for Newton. Borgic won the 800 in 2:34.14 minutes and the 300 hurdles in 53.24 seconds.

Along with the four first place finishes, the Eagles had six seconds, nine thirds, two fourths, one fifth and one sixth.
