Area Girls Tracksters Advance To Finals In 10 Events

CHARLESTON -- Area girls track athletes advanced to Saturday's finals in nine events at the Class A and one event in Class AA State Track Meets after preliminary action Thursday and Friday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.
In the Class AA State Meet, Effingham's Kiyah Kuhlman will be competing in the finals of the 100 hurdles. Kuhlman qualified with a time of 15.20 seconds.
In Class A, Teutopolis High School's Claire Bushur will take care of two of those events. Bushur had a throw 43 feet, 9 inches in the shot to qualify and went 133-10 in the discus, to also advance.
Two Teutopolis competitors took part in the pole vault and both will be competing in the finals. Micah McWhorter and Isabelle Hemmen both made the qualifying height of 10 feet.
The Wooden Shoes also have Morgan Mette going on with a time of 1:00.76 minutes in the 400.
Effingham St. Anthony's Sarah Carr will return to the finals in the 800 with a time of 2:23.74 minutes.
Altamont's Rachel Jackman will take part in the finals of the high jump after going over the bar at 5 feet, 2 inches.
Brownstown/St. Elmo's Claire Wilhour will be competing in the 300 hurdles. She qualified for the finals with a time of 46.36 seconds.
Two relay teams also will be competing. T-town's Jessica Runde, Kaitlyn Schumacher, Rebecca Habing and Morgan Mette finished with a qualifying time of 10:06.53 minutes in the 3200.
Newton's Claire Carr, Madison Phillips, Abby Stone and Brooklyn Herman finished with a time of 4:09.75 to advance in the 1600.
Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore will be competing in the 3200 Saturday as this race is only contested that day.
Competing in the Class 2A State preliminaries today is Effingham High School's Kiyah Kuhlman in the 100 hurdles.
