Junior High Boys, Girls 1A State Track Results

EAST PEORIA -- Two area teams captured junior high school state track team championships during the past weekend at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Teutopolis captured the Class 7A Boys State Track title with 38.5 points followed by Chicago Old St. Mary's 30, Liberty 28, Kankakee Bishop McNamara 23, Springfield Christ the King 23, Erie 21.5, Assumption Central A&M 21, Homer Heritage 20, Cuba 18 and Havana 18 in the Top 10.

Newton St. Thomas' Evan Baltzell won the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.57 seconds.

Altamont was the winner of the Class 7A Girls State Track championship with 37.5 points followed in the Top 10 by Normal Metcalf 31, Teutopolis 30, Chicago Queen of All Saints 25, Chicago Old St. Mary's 21, Effingham St. Anthony 21, Palatine St. Thomas 19, Newark Lisbon 18, Pekin Rankin 18, Carthage 17 and Monmouth ICS 17.

Altamont's Grace Nelson claimed two state titles by capturing the 100 hurdles in 16.35 seconds and the long jump at 17 feet, 2 inches. Other area champions in 7A were Kaitlyn Vahling from Teutopolis in the 400 in 1:02.52 minutes and the Wooden Shoes' 800 Relay team in 1:51.97. Sydney Kibler of St. Anthony claimed the discus with a throw of 88 feet, 1 inch.

Teutopolis was fourth in the Class 8A Girls State Track Meet with 24.5 points. Winning was Waterman Indian Creek 46, Seneca 38, Toulon Stark County 34, Teutopolis, Monmouth ICS 24, LaSalle Trinity Catholic 22, Springfield Christian 21, Chillicothe St. Edward's 18, Urbana Univeristy 18 and Rock Falls St. Andrew.

T-town's Danielle Sarchet was the champion in the pole vault at 8 feet, 3 inches.

In the Class 8A Boys State Meet, Sidell Salt Fork won with 45 followed by Stronghurst West Central 41, Springfield Christain 34, Bismarck-Henning 32, Chicago St. Benedit 30, Rushville Schuyler Industry 28, Effingham St. Anthony 17, Peoria Christian 16, Elgin Harvest Christian 13 and Peoria Hillis 13.
