Effingham's Kuhlman, CHBC Athletes Advance To State

TOLONO -- Effingham High School's Kiyah Kuhlman will be competing in the Class 2A State Track Meet after qualifying in the Tolono Unity Sectional Thursday.
Kuhlman took second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.27 seconds to advance.
Winning the team championship was Monticello with 96 points followed by Urbana 84, Mount Zion 77.33, Mattoon 60, Rantoul 48, Tolono Unity 36, Charleston 35, Mahomet-Seymour 28, Centralia 25, Effingham 24, Olney 13.33, Salem 9, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 8, Decatur Eisenhower 5 and Paris 4.33.
Kuhlman will be competing in the Class 2A preliminaries Friday, March 17 and could advance to the finals Saturday, March 18.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will be represented by two athletes at the Class 1A State Track Meet after qualifying in the Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional Thursday.
Tatyana Duckwitz, a freshman, will take part in the long jump after finishing second with a leap of 16 feet, 5 inches.
Jaelyn Robertson, a junior, finished fourth in the triple jump at 33 feet, 11 inches but reached the state qualifying standard.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had athletes competing but no one advanced to state.

The qualifiers advance to the preliminaries at the Class A State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium Thursday, May 16. Athletes advancing from the prelims will compete in the finals Saturday, May 18.
