Hearts Win Triangular Boys, Girls Track Meets

Effingham High School claimed both the boys and girls track meets hosted by Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday.

In the boys meet, EHS tallied 93 1/2 points followed by St. Anthony 54 1/2 and Teutopolis 36.

The Hearts claimed three of the four relay events, taking the 400 in 52.72 seconds, the 800 in 1:38.4 minutes and the 1600 in 3:48.4.

Duncan captured three wins for the Hearts. Duncan won the long jump at 19 feet, 2 inches, the 100 in 11.48 seconds and the 200 in 23.69.

Other firsts came from Moeller in the high jump at 5-6, Franklin in the triple jump at 35-3, Thompson in the pole vault at 11-0 and Kihne in the 400 in 54.21.

St. Anthony had four first place finishes. Dust captured two of those, the 800 in 2:14.8 and the 1600 in 5:03.6.  Elder won the 110 hurdles in 15.79 while the Bulldogs' 3200 relay team won in 9:15.0.

The Wooden Shoes also had four first place finishes. Kingery won the shot with a throw of 40 feet, 11 1/2 inches and captured the discus at 173-5. Kitten claimed the 300 hurdles in 48.13. Probst was a winner in the 3200 in 10:59.8.

In the girls meet, Effingham won with 63 points followed by Teutopolis 61 and St. Anthony 51.

The Hearts had six first place finishes in the meet. EHS won the 400 relay in 53.47 seconds and the 1600 relay in 4:20.91 minutes.

Kuhlman claimed the 100 hurdles in 16.59 seconds. Weaver won the 3200 in 13:20.43. Phillips claimed the 100 in 13.62 and Bierman won the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.

The Wooden Shoes won seven events taking the 3200 relay in 10:26.33.

Individually, Bushur was a double event winner capturing the shot with a throw of 44 feet, 2 1/2 inches and the discus at 140-8. McWhorter claimed the pole vault at 9-6. Runde won the 800 in 2:32.76 while Mette claimed the 400 in 1:02.83. The 200 went to Schumacher in 27.41.

Winning for the  Bulldogs were Rozene in the 1600 in 6:36.67, Niebrugge in the long jump at 14-3 and Cothran in the triple jump at 28-1.
