Several Area Tracksters Advance to Girls State Finals

CHARLESTON -- Several area tracksters advanced to the Class A State Track Meet finals in both the field events and the running events Thursday at  Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Teutopolis' 3200 relay team of Jessica Runde, Rebecca Habing, Kara Weichman and Morgan Mette turned in the top time of the meet at 9:49.59 minutes. The second best after the Wooden Shoes was Mendon Unity at 9:55.29. That advanced the relay squad to the finals Saturday.

Also qualifying for the Shoes was Claire Bushur in the shot with a throw of 42 feet, 10 inches.

Micah McWhorter did not advance in the high jump with no height. Jessica Runde did not advance in the 1600 in 5:54.76.

Qualifying for Altamont to the finals were Rachel Jackman in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1 inch and Hanna Wolff in the shot with a throw of 37 feet, 10 inches.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jaelyn Robertson advanced in both the long jump and the 100 hurdles. Robertson went 17 feet, 1 3/4 inches and finished in 15.61 seconds. She did not quality in the triple jump at 33 feet, 9 inches.

Newton's 400 relay team of Ana Rodriguez, Brooklyn Herman, Alex Haarman and Abby Stone failed to advance with a time of 51.12 seconds. The 800 relay team of Mikala Haarman, A. Haarman, Tori  Zumbahlen and Herman did not advance with a time of 1:51.36.

Also not reaching finals were Newton's Rodriguez in the long jump at 15-8, Herman in the 100 in 13.41 and Stone in the 800 in 2:30.26.

The Eagles' Morgan Mette and Kara Weichman both competed in the 400 and neither advanced. Mette had a time of 1:00.49 while Weichman finished in 1:03.59. Herman took part in the 100 and did not advance with a time of 13.41.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Whitney Smith did not advance in the long jump with a leap of 15-7 or the triple jump at 33-7 3/4.

Effingham St. Anthony's Sarah Carr did not advance in the 800 with a time of 2:29.21 minutes and failed to advance in the 1600 with a time of 5:55.79.

Several area field event personnel competed in the pole vault. T-town's Micah McWhorter advanced with a vault of 10 feet. Neoga's Abbi Dow went 9 feet, 6 inches but did not advance. Cumberland's Katelyn Yaw competed and went 9 feet and did not advance. Yaw also did not advance in the triple jump with a leap of 33-3.

Neoga's Abbi Kepp did not advance in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.53.

Teutopolis' 4X400 squad of Allison Will, Rebecca Habing, Kara Weichman and Morgan Mette qualified for the finals with a time of 4:09.83. Newton's squad of Madison Phillips, Claire Carr, Ana Rodriguez and Abby Stone did not advance with a time of 4:10.28. 

Claire Bushur of Teutopolis and Hanna Wolff of Altamont both advanced to the finals in the Discus Throw; Bushur with a distance of 129' 6" and Wolff with a distance of 114' 4". 

The 2A qualifying will take place on Friday. Kiyah Kuhlman of Effingham will try to reach the finals in the 300 meter hurdles.
