Area Athletes Set to Compete at Girls State Track Meet

Ten area high schools will be represented at the Class 1A and Class 2A Girls State Track Meets Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

One Effingham High School runner will be competing in the Class 2A meet scheduled for Friday. Kiyah Kuhlman will be participating in the 300 hurdles. The Class 2A track events begin at 9 a.m. but Kuhlman probably won't run until much later as eight other running events will take place before the 300 hurdles.

The other nine teams will take part in the Class 1A meet which will be held Thursday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events at 11 a.m.

Effingham St. Anthony's Sarah Carr will be competing in the 800 and 1600.

Altamont will have two athletes, Rachel Jackman in the high jump and Hanna Wolff in the shot and discus.

Claire Wilhour will wear the colors of Brownstown/St. Elmo in the 300 hurdles.

Jaelyn Robertson is taking part in three events for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. Robertson will long jump and triple jump along with running in the 100 hurdles.

Cumberland's Katelyn Yaw will be competing in the field events as she pole vaults and triple jumps. Jasmyn Dittamore will run the 3200. The 3200 does not have preliminaries and will run only on Saturday.

The two Abbi's will be competing for Neoga. Abbi Dow will pole vault and Abbi Kepp will run the 100 hurdles.

Newton has three relay teams along with three individuals taking part. Anna Rodriguez will long jump while Brooklyn Herman will take part in the 100 and Abby Stone in the 800.

The 400 relay team includes Rodriguez, Herman, Alex Haarman and Stone. The 800 relay is Mikala Haarman, A. Haarman, Tori Zumbahlen and Herman. Members of the 1600 relay include Madison Philips, Claire Carr, Rodriguez and Stone.

Five individuals will compete for Teutopolis in six events while two relay teams are on tap to run.

Micah McWhorter and Claire Bushur will compete in two events each. McWhorter will take part in the pole vault and high jump while Bushur will throw the shot and discus. Morgan Mette and Kara Weichman will both run the 400. Jessica Runde will take part in the 1600.

The 1600 relay team consists of Allison Will, Habing, Weich and Mette. The 3200 relay team members are Runde, Rebecca Habing, Weichman and Mette.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will have Whitney Smith in the long jump and triple jump.

The field event personnel and runners who advance will be competing Saturday. The field events will begin at 10 a.m. for Class 1A and 2A and at 11:30 a.m. for Class 3A.

The running events will start at 10 a.m. with 1A first, 2A second and 3A third.
