Area Athletes Advance to State Girls Track Meet

ALTAMONT -- Teutopolis High School claimed the championship of the Class A Altamont Girls Track Sectional Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes tallied 115 points followed by Newton 95, Robinson 47, Cumberland 43, Effingham St. Anthony 35, Casey-Westfield 34, Neoga 32, Altamont 30.5, Red Hill (Bridgeport) 26, Oblong 25, Brownstown/St.Elmo 20, Hutsonville/Palestine 20, Marshall 16, Vandalia 8 and Patoka 6.
Advancing for Teutopolis are the 3200 relay team of Jessica Runde, Rebecca Habing, Kara Weichman and Morgan Mette. The four-some captured first place with a time of 10:08.83 minutes. The 1600 relay team of Allison Will Habing, Weichman and Mette who took first in 4:09.88.
There are seven individuals heading to state for the Wooden Shoes. Micah McWhorter won the pole vault at 10 feet, 4 inches and finished third in the high jump at 5 feet. Claire Bushur won the shot with a heave of 40 feet, 5 1/2 inches. She also claimed the discus with a throw of 130 feet, 7 inches. Mette will be competing in the 400 after taking first in 1:00.32 while teammate Weichman was second at 1:02.96. Jessica Runde will be running the 1600 after finishing second in 5:51.22.
Advancing for Effingham St. Anthony was Sarah Carr in the 800 after winning in 2:26.91 minutes and in the 1600 after winning in 5:49.08.
Newton will have three relay teams competing in the 400, 800 and 1600. Members of the first place 400 team include Ana Rodriguez, Brooklyn Herman, Alex Haarman and Abby Stone. Members of the first place 800 team include Mikala Haarman, Alex Haarman, Tori Zumbahlen and Herman. Members of the second place 1600 team are, Madison Philips, Claire Carr, Ana Rodriguez and Abby Stone.
Individually, Rodriguez finished second in the long jump at 16-4. Brooklyn Herman took second in the 100 in 12.95 and Abby Stone was second in the 800 in 2:28.11.
Neoga's Abbi Dow will compete in the pole vault with a second place finish at 9-0. Abbi Kepp was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.48.
Altamont's Rachel Jackman won the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch. Hanna Wolf finished second in the shot with a throw of 36-7 and she finished second in the discus at 120-1.
Cumberland's Katelyn Yaw finished third in the pole vault at 9 feet and was second in the triple jump at 32-4 3/4. Jasmyn Dittamore won the 3200 in 12:52.30.
Brownstown/St. Elmo's Claire Wilhour took second in the 300 hurdles in 46.87 seconds.
The Class 1A State Track Meet is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. The 1A semifinals will begin at 10 a.m. with field events. Those advancing from the opening day, will compete Saturday, May 19 beginning at 9:15 a.m. with the Parade of Competitors. The field events start at 10 a.m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg have an individual each advancing to the State Meet.
Decatur St. Teresa won the sectional with 131 points followed by Warrensburg-Latham 84, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 62, Pana 58, Sullivan 45, Tuscola 35, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 34, Shelbyville 32, Moweaqua Cental A&M 25, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 22, Niantic Sangamon Valley 14, Macon Meridian 14 and Arcola 2
Advancing for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was Jaelyn Robertson in the long jump and triple jump. Robertson won the triple jump at 35 feet, 10 inches and finished second in the long jump at 27-10 1/4. She finished third in the 100 hurdles and met the state qualifying standard with a time of 15.69.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Whitney Smith will advance in two events. The senior finished four in the long jump but reached the state qualifying standard with a leap of 16 feet, 8 1/4 inches. She finished fifth in the triple jump but again met the qualifying standard with a jump of 33-11 1/4.

Class 2A Monticello Sectional
Effingham High School competed in the Monticello Sectional and will have one competitor at the Class 2A State Meet.
Monticello won the meet with 110.33 points followed by Urbana 100, Mahomet-Seymour 62, Mattoon 53, Mount Zion 43.33, Decatur Eisenhower 40, Rantoul 36, Clinton 35, Charleston 28, Effingham 18, Olney 16, Decatur MacArthur 15, Tolono Unity 13.33, Paris 13 and Champaign Central 6.
Kiyah Kuhlman, a junior, will be competing in the 300 low hurdles. Kuhlman finished fifth but will advance because she reached state qualifying standards with a time of 47.29 sec.
The Class 2A and Class 3A State Meets will be held Friday and Saturday. The Class 2A meet will begin with field events at 8 a.m. and track events beginning at 9 a.m.
