Newton Nabs Flora Boys Track Invitational Title

FLORA -- Newton High School captured the championship of the Flora Boys Track Invitational Thursday.

The Eagles tallied 11 points followed by Olney 109, Fairfield 100, Cumberland 99, Mount Carmel 95, Flora 34 and Woodlawn had tracksters competing but not enough for a team score.

Doughty claimed the 100 for the Eagles with a time of 11.59 seconds. Zumbahlen was a winner in the 200 in 23.56.

Carr finished first in the 800 in 2:05.68 minutes with Rieman second in 2:06.5.

Stanley won the 300 hurdles in 40.9.

The Eagles captured three of the four relay events taking the 400 in 45.81, the 800 in 1:36.5 and the 1600 in 3:43.5.

Cumberland had several first place finishes. The Pirates' McClellan won the 3200 in 10:53.96. Magee claimed the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches. Brant won the pole vault at 10-6.
