T-town Second, Newton Third, EHS Fifth at Newton Girls Track Invite

NEWTON -- Mattoon High School captured the championship of the Newton Girls Track Invitational Monday. The Green Wave won with 140.33 points followed by Teutopolis 110, Newton 98.50, Robinson 72.5, Effingham 48.33, Salem 41.33, Olney 23,  Fairfield 14 and Lawrenceville 5.

Effingham's Kourtney Cordes claimed the 3200 with a time of 12:30.18 minutes.

Newton was a winner in the 400 relay with a time of 52.07 seconds. The Eagles also won the 1600 relay in 4:19.88. The Eagles' Claire Carr won the long jump at 15 feet, 9 inches. Courtney Hadra was first in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 4 inches.

Teutopolis took first place in the 800 relay in 1:51.96 minutes and the 3200 relay in 10:27.80. The Wooden Shoes' Micah McWhorter was a winner in the pole vault at 10 feet while teammate Christa Schwinke took second at 8-0.
