Newton Wins Robinson Track Invite

ROBINSON -- Newton High School captured the championship of the Coach Cork Boys Track Invitational at Robinson High School Friday.

The Eagles tallied 128 points followed by Altamont 71.5, Paris 70, Red Hill (Bridgeport) 68, Robinson 59, Palestine/Hutsonville 42, Fairfield 29, Mount Carmel 23, Olney 22, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 18, Teutopolis 15, Lawrenceville 11 and  Brownstown/St. Elmo 1 1/2.

Newton's Nick Cartright won the discus with a throw of 140 feet, 4 inches and claimed the shot with a heave of 45-9 1/2.

Mitch Bierman captured the 100 with a time of 11.40 seconds and won the 200 in 22.76.

The 400 relay went to the Eagles in 44.73. Team members were Bierman, Hunter Gray, Rhett Kocher and Joe Stone. The Eagles also claimed the 800 freshman/sophomore relay in 1:39.30. Members of the team were Gray, Adam Bridges, Jerald Eckle and Tyler Marble. Newton also won the 800 relay in 1:33.64. Bierman, Trenton  Duncan, Tim Weber and Kocher were team members.

Newton captured the freshman/sophomore 1600 relay in 3:47.98. Team members were Gray, Eckl, Weber and Cole Farley.

Altamont's Mitchell Stevenson was a winner in the long jump at 19-10 3/4, won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.25 seconds and the 400 in 51.93.

Wyatt Stone won the triple jump at 38-6 3/4. Joe Stone took the 800 in 1:59.26. Jesus Flores claimed the 3200 in 10:33.47.
