Millikin Has Strong Track Showing at EIU Big Blue Classic

The Millikin men’s and women’s track meet had a strong showing at the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Classic on March 31-April 1 in Charleston, Illinois.  The meet featured teams from all of the NCAA Divisions including several Division I programs.

The Millikin women’s 4x800 relay team set a new school record finishing in 10:16.60.  The team of four freshmen including Morgan Powers (Shelbyville, H.S.), Natalie Krol (New Lenox, Lincoln Way East H.S.), Amber Johnson (Decatur, St. Teresa H.S.) and Elle Drake (Mattoon, H.S.) finished second in the event behind Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.

Millikin’s Erin Lukens (Johnston City, Herrin H.S.) was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.57, which was the fifth fastest time in the event in Millikin history.

The Millikin women’s 4x100 relay was eighth with a time of 51.02 seconds with Lukens, Taylor Johnson (Newton, H.S.), Claire Caldwell (Monticello, H.S.) and Isabella Newingham (Decatur, Meridian H.S.) running legs.

The Millikin men’s 4x800 relay finished in second place in 8:06.76, which was the second fastest time in school history.  Dalton Collins (Decatur, Meridian H.S.), Brock Snarski (Macon, Meridian H.S.), Tommy O’Brien (Taylorville, H.S.) and Timee McElroy (Mt. Zion, H.S.) ran legs for the Big Blue.

Jacob Segrest (Brighton, Southeastern H.S.) was seventh in the long jump with a wind aided jump of 7.00 meters.

Millikin will host the Big Blue Invite on Saturday, April 8.
