Keller Double Winner, Slaughter Wins 1A State Pole Vault

Congratulations to St. Anthony High School's Anna Sophia Keller and Kristin Slaughter, both champions at the Girls Class 1A State Track and Field Meet.

Keller and Slaughter, each who just completed their junior year, won championships during competition Saturday at O'Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Keller repeated as a state champion in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Keller won the 1600 meter run for the third straight year, in a time of 4:59.64. Keller won the 3200 meter run in a time of 10:32.16 and repeats as state champion. She finished second in the event as a freshman.

Slaughter won the pole vault, going 11 feet, nine inches. She finished second in the event last year.

Senior Anna Hartke of Teutopolis finished seventh in the high jump, going 5 feet, three inches.

Senior McKendra Barthelme of Newton competed in fourth events. She finished ninth in the long jump, going 16 feet, 7-1/4 inches. She also finished ninth in the triple jump at 35 feet, nine inches. She took second in the 100 meter high hurdles in 14.54. She finished ninth in the 300 meter low hurdles in 48.21.

Newton's Sarah Carr finished 22nd in the 3200 with atime of 12:17.10.

In the 2A State Meet, Senior Shayna Phillips of Effingham finished sixth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:17.66.
