Michl Wins 800 at Outdoor Track Championship

DECATUR, Illinois—Millikin University senior Jamie Michl (Newton, H.S.) was the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Champion in the 800 Meters as part of the Big Blue’s track and field team’s competition at the 2016 CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on May 6-7.  Millikin finished in seventh place in both the men’s and women’s team standings.

Michl defended her 2015 CCIW 800 Meter title winning on Saturday in a time of 2:13.40.  It was a personal best for Michl and improved her second place standing on the Millikin Outdoor Track Top 10 Performance List.  Michl was also the 800 Champion at the 2016 CCIW Indoor Meet.

Several other Millikin athletes earned All-Conference honors by finishing in the top eight in their event.

Freshman Erin Owens (Bloomington, H.S.) finished in 4th in the 100 Meters in 12.74 and fifth in the 200 Meters in 25.42.  Her 200 Meter time in Saturday’s finals was slower than her performance’s in Friday’s prelims at 25.12 seconds, which was the third fastest in school history.

Senior Michaela Ponstein (Oswego, H.S.) finished in fourth in the 400 Meter Hurdles in 1:05.71.  Her time was the second fastest in school history.

Freshman Erin Lukens (Johnston City, Herrin H.S.) finished in seventh place in the 100 Meter Hurdles in 16.27.  Her prelim time of 16.24 sixth best in Millikin history.

The Millikin women’s 4x400 Meter Relay set a new school record with a time of 3:58.34 with Ponstein, Michl, Lorticia Lyles (Chicago, Powerhouse H.S.) and Lukens running legs.  The relay team was fourth in the event on Saturday.

In the men’s competition, R.J. O’Connor (Trinity, Florida, Gulf H.S.) finished in fifth in the 100 Meters in 11.12 seconds.  O’Connor ran in the finals of the 200 Meters finishing just outside of an All-Conference performance finishing in ninth in 22.82 seconds.

 On Saturday, Jacob Segrest (Brighton, Southwestern H.S.) earned his second All-Conference honors finishing in sixth place in the 200 Meters in 22.62 seconds.  On Friday, Segrest finished in third in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.75 meters (22-1.75).

Jesse Blair (Niantic, Sangamon Valley H.S.) was fifth in the Javelin with a throw of 49.35 meters.

Jordan McCall (Illiopolis, Sangamon Valley H.S.) finished in ninth in the 400 Meter Finals.  Although he missed All-Conference honors, his time was seventh fastest in school history.

Millikin’s 4x100 Relay finished in fourth place in 42.69 seconds with J.C. Wagner (Joliet, Joliet Catholic H.S.), Segrest, McCall and O’Connor running legs.
