Newton Boys, Girls Win LIC Track Meet Titles

Newton High School claimed championships in both the boys and girls Little Illini Conference Track Meets Saturday.

The Eagles won the boys meet with 135 points followed by Robinson 121, Olney 77, Marshall 61, Red Hill (Bridgeport) 45, Paris 38, Flora 33, Casey-Westfield 26 and Lawrenceville 22.

Cartright won both the discus and shot for the Eagles. Cartright picked up the shot victory with a throw of 47 feet, 11 1/2 inches then took the discus at 149 feet, 10 inches.

Mammoser was a winner in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 6 inches.

In the 400, Stone won with a time of 52.09 seconds. He also captured the 800 in 1:59.50 minutes.

Winning the 1600 was Carr with a time of 4:53.40 minutes.

In the girls meet, Newton won the championship with 176 points followed by Robinson 109, Olney 71, Marshall 71, Red Hill 56, Casey-Westfield 46, Paris 10, Flora 8 and Lawrenceville 7.

Barthelme captured four victories for the Eagles. Barthelme won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Teammate Harman was second at 14-7 3/4. Barthelme claimed the triple jump at 35-1. She also won the 100 hurdles in 15.65 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 47.62.

Smithenry claimed the high jump at 4 feet, 11 inches. Johnson captured the 400 in 1:01.68 minutes. Carr claimed the 800 in 2:25.43 and Kuhn won the 3200 in 12:32.4.

The 1600 relay went to Newton in 4:20.43 minutes.
