EHS Boys Second, Girls Third in Apollo Track Meets

CHARLESTON -- The Effingham High School girls track squad finished third at the Apollo Conference Track Meet Thursday.

Charleston won the title with 168 points followed by Mattoon 130, Effingham 105, Mount Zion 76, Taylorville 60 and Salem 15.

Effingham claimed three first place finishes. The Hearts won the 1600 relay with a time of 4:09.35 minutes.

Shayna Phillips was a winner in the 800 with a time of 2:25.0 minutes. Phillips also took a second in the 400 in 1:01.35

Kiyah Kuhlman went over the 300 hurdles in 49.01 seconds for the victory.

In the boys meet, Effingham tied for second place with Mount Zion with 112 points each. Mattoon won the title with 155 points. Fourth went to Salem with 79 followed by Taylorville 62 and Charleston 30.

Effingham picked up four victories. Sean Zerrusen was a winner in the 800 with a time of 1:57.94 minutes. He placed second in the 400 in 52.26. Terrence Hill was a winner in the high jump at 6 feet, 3 inches.

The Hearts went 1-2 in the pole vault as Alec Morrissey won at 13-3 while Drew Vasquez was second at 12-9.

The Hearts also claimed the 800 relay with a time of 1:37.16.
