EHS Competes In Urbana Boys Track Open

URBANA -- Effingham competed in the Urbana Boys Track Open Saturday. The Hearts finished seventh in the varsity meet while capturing the freshman/sophomore championship.

In the varsity meet, Mattoon was the team champion with 126 points followed by Danville 73, Champaign Central 65, Argo 51, Rantoul 51, Manual 44, Effingham 42, Urbana 35, Peoria 27, Rich South 24 and Decatur MacArthur 19.

Drew Vasquez was a champion in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet.

Effingham finished second in the 1600 relay and the 3200 relay. Members of the 1600 team who finished in 3:36.27 minutes were Hill, Siner, Zerrusen and Hecht. Members of the 3200 team who finished in 8:26.14 were Siner, Homann, Kihne and Zerrusen.

CJ Schmidt had a good meet, taking third in the 3200 with a time of 10:57.82 minutes and finished seventh in the 1600 in 5:01.04.

Terrance Hill captured third place in the 100 dash with a time of 11.53 seconds.

In the freshman/sophomore meet, the Hearts won with 60 points followed by Rantoul 55, Danville 32.33, Decatur MacArthur 32,  Peoria Manual 28.66, Rich South 24, Peoria 19, Champaign Central 18, Argo 18, Mattoon 14 and Urbana 7.

EHS went one-two in the high jump and the pole vault. In the high jump, Hill won with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches while teammate Kody Line took second at 6-0. In the pole vault, Alec Morrissey was the winner at 12 feet while teammate Lucas Vasquez took second at 11-0.

Hill also nabbed first place in the long jump at 20 feet, 3/4 inches. Frank Schniederjon finished second in the shot with a throw of 41-10.
