Newton Wins Sam Bennett Invitational; Hartke Sets School Record for Teutopolis

Newton won the Sam R. Bennett Invitational girls track meet in Robinson on Friday.

McKendra Barthelme had a big day for Newton, securing four wins. Barthelme won the triple jump at 34 feet, 10 inches; took the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 9 1/2 inches; won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.21 seconds; and claimed the 300 meter low hurdles in 49.79 seconds.

Newton's 4X400 relay team of Sarah Carr, Molly Giacone, Jaclyn Barthelme and Taylor Johnson won in 4:21.27. Carr won the 3200 meter run in 13:03.85.

Teutopolis claimed three first place finishes, including a school-record performance by Anna Hartke in the high jump. Hartke went five feet, 6 1/2 inches, breaking the long-time record set by Donna Carie in 1979.

Jolene Bueker captured a win for T-Town in the pole vault, going eight feet, 6 1/4 inches. The Shoes also claimed the 4X800 in 10:36.14 via the squad of Rebecca Habing, Emma Repking, Savannah Grimes and Shanna Niebrugge.
