Cumberland Takes Seventh in Class A, Area Teams Compete at Charleston Boys Invite

CHARLESTON -- Cumberland High School finished seventh in the Charleston Boys Indoor Track Invitational Saturday in Class A.

Winning the Class A meet was St. Joseph-Ogden with 47 followed by Pleasant Plains 39, Robinson 37, Shelbyville 32, Tuscola 27, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 27, New Berlin 25, Cumberland 25, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 24, Trenton Wesclin 22, Vandalia 22, Pana 21, Newton 19, Carlinville 19, Teutopolis 17, Arcola 17, Nashville 17, Williamsville 16, Lowpoint-Washburn 13, Sparta 12, Villa Grove-Heritage 12,  St. Anne 12, Oakwood 10, North Shore Country Day 8, Patoka 6, Hume Shiloh 5, Marshall 3, Effingham St. Anthony 3, Beecher 2, Tremont 2 and Bloomington Central Catholic 1.

T-town's Noah Blievernicht won the 60 hurdles in 8.78 seconds.The Shoes' Andrew McWhorter finished third in the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches.

Cumberland's Dillon Howard finished second in the 400 in 53.85 seconds and fourth in the 200 finals in 23.99. Trevor Beard captured second in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11.

Newton's s 3200 relay team finished fifth in 9:01.63 minutes. Newton also had Keith King take third in the high jump at 6 feet.

Effingham finished 24th in the Class AA meet with three points. Cahokia won with 82 points.

Effingham's Drew Vasquez took seventh in the pole vault and the 800 relay team of Tristen Rhodes, Collin Hecht, Chris Berglund and Jared Stremming finished eighth.

"I really like these indoor meets," said EHS Coach Terry Harbaugh. "It gives me a chance to see the freshmen and newcomers who are out for track."
