St. Anthony's Andrew Gardewine a State Champion; Other Results

St. Anthony's Andrew Gardewine is a state champion.

The recently graduated Gardewine captured the 1A state championship in the 800 meter run, setting a St. Anthony school record in the process.

Gardewine's winning time was 1:55.78. Andrew finished eighth in the 800 at State last year.

Also competing in the 800 was Joseph Stone of Newton, who finished sixth in 1:58.39. 

Gardewine also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing sixth in 50.37. 

Also at the state meet, Corey Kersey of Neoga finished seventh in the long jump, going 21'5-1/2". Kersey finished second in the triple jump, at 45' 1/4". He won both events a year ago.

Three area athletes competed in the pole vault. Monte Wolke of Cumberland tied for fourth at 14'6", Drew Kowalski of Teutopolis tied for ninth at 13'6", and Matthew Tolliver-Goode of Newton finished 11th at 13'6". 

Jesus Flores of Altamont finished 34th in the 3200 meter run in 10:49.99.  

Riley Drees of Teutopolis finished fourth in the 300 meter hurdles in 39.92.  

In Class 2A, Effingham High School's Sean Zerrusen got a fourth place finish in the 800, in 1:56.75.
