Effingham High School's Cassi Green will be taking her track talents to Olivet Nazarene University next year. The high school senior, the daughter of Tim and Rene Green, competes in the triple jump for the Hearts.

"Cassi competes regularly in the triple jump and has started competing in the long jump this year and has improved significantly over the past few weeks," said EHS Coach Dannette Williamson. "She also runs the 400, 300 hurdles and other various sprint races when needed.

"Cassi is very much a team player. She is always willing to try new things. She also has consistently brought in team points through the triple jump over the past few years. Cassi always has a positive attitude and is always supportive of her teammates."

Green also has competed in volleyball and been a member of the EHS marching band. She lettered in volleyball and marching band as well as track. In volleyball, she earned Most improved award and in band she earned the Best Freshman award.

"Cassi will be competing in the triple jump for us," said Olivet Nazarene University Coach Mike McDowell. "She is a very hardworking student and athlete which is what attracted us as a coaching staff to her. Cassi is a determined individual who wants to improve her athletic abilities at the collegiate level."

"Cassi is very willing to try new things," said EHS Coach Williamson. "However she will need to adjust to a different level of training. The training at the collegiate level will be much different than it has in high school. The changes to her training will allow her to work on her phases in triple jump."

"We have done very well over the past few years with our program," said Coach McDowell. "The current ONU jumps squad has done very well as a group. During our indoor season, we qualified 11 jumpers to the NAIA National meet. Olivet's own Elisha DeRamus, who is also a triple jumper, became an All-American at the NAIA Indoor National Championship.

"This past weekend he won the meet and qualified for outdoor nationals which is a higher standard than indoors and he will be competing at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. His best jump this season is 14.50m.

"We expect big things for Cassi in the future and we are very excited to have her joining the Tigers in the fall."
